Te Amokura the Indigenous jersey was created in partnership PUMA/Te Tairawhiti. This is a powerful expression of our unity, connection, and identification. It will wear it in the round 12 match against Newcastle Knights Saturday 28th Mai as part the NRL Indigenous Round. Te Amokura jersey draws its inspirations from the manu bird. They are known in Aotearoa Australia, the Pacific and elsewhere. The Amokura is a crucial part of the navigation of the Pacific by great navigators to locate the largest body. Its distinctive red tail wings are its most prominent feature. These feathers were highly sought after in Te moana noia Kiwa, by top chiefs as well as warriors. These colors are represented on the jersey with two red strips at each end. These colours symbolize important aspects of club identity as well as the journey made by players and staff over the last three season, as well as the sacrifices that they made for their family and supporters. Blue is mana Oana. The Pacific Ocean connects Aotearoa Aotearoa with Aotearoa. It carries our collective whakapapa. Green is the colour of mana wheneverua. Aotearoa means “the land” and is the recognition of Australia’s true home, The Warriors, and mana wheneverua. The Aboriginal whanaunga of Australia (and the original peoples Australia), have welcomed the team for the last three years. Red represents mana tangata. The people link players past, present, future. As each player moves to the field their whakapapa will be interwoven. Te Po’s colour is Black. It is a place for learning and development. Te Ao means white. It is a place to express yourself and take action. The jersey looks like an oxford or cloak, and represents the wearer’s individual journey. It is a symbol and celebration of our cultural identity. This Jersey is identical in design to the Indigenous round jerseys worn on the field.
