Parramatta Eels 21 Mens Indigenous Jersey created by Danielle Mate
Parramatta River, and Georges River, flow through the main shirt. Parramatta River was a place of gathering for many clans.
Pemulwuy has been called a great Aboriginal Worrier. In his honor, Georges River was named. He was just north of Georges River when he was born. Pemulwuy refers to a Darug term which means earth/clay. He was known as a “clever and principled man” who fought tirelessly for the rights for his people.
Pemulwuy led around 100 Aboriginal Warriors into Toongabbie Government Farm in 1797. This battle is known as “The Battle of Parramatta”. Pemulwuy was shot seven times in the head during this battle. The settlers took him to the hospital in respect. The yellow dots signify these brave soldiers’ heroic fight against settlers.
Parramatta Eels is the name of the player represented by the U-shaped, in aqua bleu, running alongside the river. They are the community’s champions and bring people together.
The jersey back for the Parramatta team is located in the lower right. The Parramatta Club is where family, friends and players meet. The journey lines connect players with the club. It is vital that family connections are maintained.
