Spain is the oldest club to play international rugby. It was formed in 1901. It was 1999 that Spain became the first nation to qualify for the 1999 Rugby World Cup. This was its greatest success. Spain competes against Russia and Georgia in today’s European Nations Cup. Spain has never won the title of European champion. However, they are getting close. They’ve come close to becoming European champions. However, they weren’t quite as close as 2012 in Georgia when they defeated Georgia (and placed second).
